At ViVo Magazine we are for supporting ultra local news, community content and aim to give a national voice to local issues around the UK. With that in mind, please take a look at this appeal for help on behalf of a couple aiming to raise money for cancer research.

One in three of us will get cancer at some point in our lives.

• Number of people worldwide living with cancer today: 24.6 million

• Most common cancers in developed nations: lung cancer; also prostate, breast and bowel

• Number of new UK cases of cancer diagnosed in 2001: 270,000

• Most prevalent cancers in the developing world: Those triggered by infections; mostly stomach, liver and cervix

• Cancers most often cured: breast, prostate, colon and skin – if diagnosed early

• Relative increase in the number of annual cancer cases expected by 2025, as a result of the world’s ageing population: 50%

Once so feared its name was whispered, the disease is no longer an inevitable death sentence. Today, almost two-thirds of those who develop cancer will still be alive five years later, compared with just half in the 1970s.

BUT it takes money and research. AND it takes people, like you and me, to support and contribute in any way we can to help to make a difference!

You must have heard by now? Arron and I have decided to put in any effort that is necessary to raise the sponsorship money to give to such a worthwhile cause. We are also taking 2 weeks out of our lives to cycle from Vietnam to Cambodia as part of a gruelling mental and physical challenge. We will be cycling for around 8-10 hours a day and covering an average of 40 miles a day for a period of 14 days in hot HOT and humid conditions. But we promise to come back and share the amazing experience with you all.

All the money we raise will go to the Yorkshire Cancer Research society http://www.ycr.org.uk who basically do fantastic work to raise funds to award grants to scientists at Universities and associated teaching hospitals to ensure that you and your family have access to some of the world’s best treatments and therapy!

We need all the support and encouragement that we can get.
